This article guides you on configuring DNS for using a shopify store. Take note that you need to take caution when editing DNS records otherwise you can cause some of your services like mail to no longer work. If you need help we recommend submitting a support ticket to our team to assist you.
To configure DNS for a Shopify store, you need to update your domain's A record and CNAME record with your domain provider. Specifically, you'll point the A record to Shopify's IP address (23.227.38.65) and the CNAME record (usually www) to shops.myshopify.com.
Here's a step-by-step guide:
Access your domain's DNS settings:
Log in to your cPanel hosting account
Navigate to the DNS management area
Update the A record:
Locate the existing A record for your domain (or create one if it doesn't exist).
Set the "Name" or "Host" field to @ (or your root domain).
Set the "Value" or "Points to" field to Shopify's IP address: 23.227.38.65.
If you have other A records, you may need to remove them or ensure they point to Shopify's IP as well.
Update the CNAME record (usually for www):
Locate the CNAME record for www (or create one if it doesn't exist).
Set the "Name" or "Host" field to www.
Set the "Value" or "Points to" field to shops.myshopify.com.
Ensure the TTL (Time To Live) is set to a reasonable value (e.g., 1 hour or default).
Verify the connection in Shopify:
From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Domains.
Click Connect existing domain.
Enter your domain name (e.g., yourdomain.com) and click Next.
Click Connect domain.
Shopify will attempt to verify the domain connection based on the DNS changes.
You might need to click Verify connection to initiate the verification process.
Important Notes:
It can take up to 48 hours for DNS changes to fully propagate across the internet.
If you're using a subdomain (e.g., shop.yourdomain.com), you'll need to create a CNAME record for the subdomain, pointing to shops.myshopify.com
